When the country’s political leaders are due to go head to head for a live debate with a studio audience in front of millions of television viewers, security is clearly a major consideration. Pilgrims had the opportunity to prove it was more than up to the task when commissioned by broadcaster, ITV, to provide security services for ITV’s first leaders debate in the run up to this year’s General Election.
Senior Operations Manager for Pilgrims Group, Anthony Wisdom, said: “It was a complex project, incorporating not just the studio debate and all the elements that entails but also the set up and running of a tented media village, from where News at 10 broadcasted live to the nation. The full range of our services, consultancy and intelligence (including counter-terrorism expertise), event management and manned guarding, all came into play. Our team showed great skill in calmly managing everything that came their way – nothing and no-one got past them that shouldn’t have.”
The ITV Leaders Debate event took place at Media City in Manchester on 18th May, just four days ahead of the Manchester Arena terrorist attack, which claimed 22 lives and injured 250 people.
Pilgrims is fast becoming the go-to partner of choice for the media sector which, particularly in today’s world of terrorist threats, is taking the issue of risk and security extremely seriously.
