Pilgrims Training Academy has achieved certification with Highfield ABC, the internationally recognised awarding body for compliance in security disciplines. This recognition follows the Academy’s success in achieving accreditation by City & Guilds and the medical training body Qualsafe (as announced in the Beacon, Nov 2016).

Based in Redhill, Surrey, Pilgrims Academy has now successfully gained accreditation to deliver a number of courses including Executive Protection (Body Guarding) Level 3, Security Operative Training and the Level 2 Door Supervisors course, with Highfield ABC.

The centre is known for its innovative courses in hostile environment training, including realistic urban role play scenarios, as well as its highly-regarded medical and safety training and corporate team building. Although much of the teaching is classroom-based, the 32,500 sq ft facility recreates realistic environments within its Urbanised Training Facility including, a town square, a “major incident” street and a collapsed building. Trainees experience the sights, sounds and even smells of a disaster or terrorist incident.

To achieve the Highfield ABC recognition, Pilgrims demonstrated its compliance with students’ welfare procedures, the Data Protection Act, health and safety and equality and diversity policies, as well as showing its innovative lesson plans and training programs.

The Academy allows students to not only learn the necessary theory but, uniquely, to put that theory into practice within the practical area.

“As a leading risk management and security training company we can now provide accredited close protection, man guarding and door supervisor training to internationally recognised standards,” says Steve Amphlett, Pilgrims Group’s Senior Training Manager. “Clients from every sector, including the emergency services (fire, police and rescue), government personnel posted overseas, the corporate world, the media and international organisations, can benefit from this new accreditation. It represents further achievement by the Pilgrims Training Academy as it continues to offer world-leading excellence in training.”

David Freear Group COO states, “Our aim is to provide high quality training but above all provide delegates with the ability to use and test their skills within realistic situations before they have to use them for real. Our experience has found this makes a major difference in terms of what they take away from our courses.”

As well as the City & Guilds, Qualsafe and Highfield ABC courses, Pilgrims Academy runs bespoke training which offers professionals and employees in all walks of life a high level of preparation for the risks they may encounter while working abroad or in crisis situations.
